Greens Update - Feb 2026
As we head into March and dream of warmer and brighter days, the golf course is currently extremely wet in places as we have had 100 mm of rain in February, and this has fell over 18 days of the month. This is just a little catch up of where we are on the course as we head towards the new season.
The greens, collars, approaches, and tees have all had a granular feed to help them recover from the winter stresses. They have responded well to this and, now they have been washed in by the rain, they are showing signs of renewed health. We are still cutting at winter heights, however, these heights will gradually come down over the next few weeks ready for the new season.
All the greens were aerated this week with the Air2G2 machine, which blasts air deep into the soil profile, providing necessary oxygen to the roots, and fracturing the soil to allow the greens to drain better. Soil tests have also been taken by our main fertiliser supplier, so that we can start to tailor our fertility programme for the spring and set us up for the main playing season.
The two new tees on 12 and 18 are fully rooted now and they will receive their first cut next week. When the weather is more favourable, they will receive a good topdressing, as will all green and tees. All the main tees have had a divotting too.
All the eight bunkers that have been dug out are now ready for the liner to go in, with the large bunker on the 18th still to have its shelf cut out. The bunker liners are due to go in a week on Monday, 9th March. We will immediately start to turf the bunkers straight after so we can complete the job fully. All the other bunkers are to be weeded over the next couple of weeks too, and where needed, new sand will be added to top up levels ahead of the season.
There are still other jobs to complete, such as the banks and path by the 12th tee, and areas to tidy up, such as to the left of the 18th tees and in the woodland to the left of the 12th. These areas will be completed as soon as possible, but we have not wanted to carry large loads of materials across the course. We are trying to keep the damage from the machinery to an absolute minimum, which is obviously a challenge at the minute.
The main machinery has all been sharpened ready to go when the course is suitable. In the meantime we will use some hand machinery to cut some longer grass around the green and tee banks. All being well we will be out in shorts and t shirts before we know it!!
